I came across a magazine from the 1960s the other day called Vietnam Fights and Builds. It was published in South Vietnam and was written in English. It is obviously a type of “public relations” magazine that was meant to present an image of progress to the outside world.

As for “fighting,” the images in the magazine emphasize the kindness of soldiers.

And as for “building,” several of the cover pages of the magazine feature newly constructed buildings/factories/power plants, such as these:

And like many other magazines of this type from that time period, there are also plenty of images of beautiful young women.

I always find such magazines interesting to look at. Of course they do not faithfully represent reality (no pictures do), but they do give us a sense of a type of reality that at least some people in South Vietnam wanted to create.

For those who are interested in the past, that is interesting to see.
