Engaging With Vietnam #11 Conference Theme

The 11th Engaging With Vietnam conference will be held this July 15-16 in Leiden, the Netherlands, in conjuction with the 11th ICAS (International Convention of Asia Scholars) conference, July 16-19.

The deadline to submit a proposal is 5 April (http://engagingwithvietnamconference.org/).

The theme of the conference is “Vietnam in Europe, Europe in Vietnam: Identity, Transnationality and Mobility of People, Ideas and Practices across Time and Space” and the video below contains information about the conference theme:

Announcing Engaging With Vietnam #11

Engaging With Vietnam is very delighted to announce its 11th Engaging With Vietnam: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue conference (EWV 11), which is going to be held on 15-16 July 2019 in Leiden, the Netherlands, alongside the 11th International Convention of Asia Scholars Conference (ICAS 11) on 16-19 July 2019.

The theme of the 11th conference is “Vietnam in Europe, Europe in Vietnam: Identity, Transnationality and Mobility of People, Ideas and Practices across Time and Space.”

A Conversation about Researching Gender and Sexuality with Dr. Khuất Thu Hồng, ISDS (Phần 1)

Last summer, in preparation for the 10th Engaging With Vietnam conference, we had a conversation with Dr. Khuất Thu Hồng, founder and director of the Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS, Viện Nghiên cứu phát triển xã hội) in Hanoi. Dr. Khuất Thu Hồng will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming conference.

Dr. Khuất Thu Hồng is a pioneering researcher on such topics as gender and sexuality in Vietnam. In this first video, Dr. Khuất Thu Hồng talked about her early career and her first efforts to engage in research on sexuality and gender and to establish the Institute for Social Development Studies.

The 10th Engaging With Vietnam Conference

We would like to announce that the 10th Engaging With Vietnam: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue Conference will be held from 15-21 December 2018 in Hồ Chí Minh City and Phan Thiết, Bình Thuận. The theme of this year’s conference is “Beyond Dichotomies: Vietnam from Multiple Perspectives.” The deadline to submit individual or panel proposals is 30 September 2018 and notification will be made by 30 October 2018 (earlier submissions are welcome and early notifications can be accommodated).

K-Pop River Tourism in Vietnam

The most recent Engaging With Vietnam conference (the 9th) focused on the topics of tourism, development, sustainability, and the preservation of heritage/culture. In the case of Vietnam, these topics are particularly fascinating and relevant ones as over the past two decades the country has witnessed a massive expansion of the tourism sector as business people have sought to cater to the ever-growing number of both domestic and international tourists.

Such a transformation of course brings both positive and negative changes, and this in turn highlights the many issues that the development of tourism encompasses, and the many questions the development of tourism raises.
